Who we run for
CCVI is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
agency in Kansas City, Missouri, whose mission is to prepare young children who
are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities, to
reach their highest potential in the sighted world. CCVI provides a
comprehensive program for children, birth through school age, including
highly-specialized instruction, therapies and family education.
Trolley Run History
The idea for this fundraiser was
presented to the Friends of CCVI by the former Michael Forbes
Restaurants, Inc., which owned two restaurants, four miles apart in the heart
of Kansas City and The Plaza shopping area. The 4-mile course follows the old
streetcar/trolley tracks and hence, the name, Michael Forbes Trolley Run! In
2001, the Trolley Run welcomed a new Title Sponsor, the Sabates Eye Centers.
Over the years, the Trolley Run has become:
A Record-Breaking Run
Since 1998, several records have
been broken for a 4-mile U.S. race. The Trolley Run continues to hold these
distinctions:
Preparing For Race Day
A full year of preparation by
more than 80 dedicated volunteers working non stop culminates on Race Day when
approximately 600 volunteers will be on the course working under the direction
of the Trolley Run Committee Chairmen, the Mid-America Running Association and
End Result Company (professional organization that times, operates and computes
the race results from the timing chip.)
Post Race
After the race, The Plaza is the place to be
as runners, walkers, spectators and families enjoy one of the largest
“After-Bash” celebrations in the country complete with food, drink and
entertainment. The Kids’ Trolley Run takes place in Mill Creek Park after the
adult run/walk. The week after the run, we thank all of our sponsors at a
Partners Party.
